LIVING IN SAN FRANCISCO

As important issue for most people moving to San Francisco is the cost of housing. UCSF has a housing service for its students and researchers; please have a look at their home page.

UCSF also has a comprehensive set of campus information web sites, including everything from the sports center to diversity services.

Of particular interest to those unfamiliar with San Francisco and the UCSF campuses are their maps and information about transportation. The Bay Area enjoys excellent public transit. In addition, UCSF operates a free shuttle service among its campuses.

It is important to remember that, while rents can be painfully high in San Francisco, other necessities such as food, transportation, and entertainment are less expensive than in many comparable cities. When these are taken into account, San Francisco actually has a fairly moderate cost of living. To find out more about City life, check out the home pages of the two major entertainment weeklies, the Bay Guardian and San Francisco Weekly.
